Elizabeth, known to her friends and family as Liz, was born in Atlanta and raised in Decatur Georgia. She discovered her love for running at an early age watching her brother run track and cross-country. During her high school years at Southwest DeKalb, she participated in several sports but excelled in the long jump.
Upon graduating high school, she went on to attend the University of Georgia on academic scholarships. Realizing that she missed track and field, she sought out the head coach of the women’s track team and began to compete as a walk on. She continued to do well in class and on the track, earning Deans List, All Academic SEC, and Academic Roundtable honors. She transitioned from the long jump and began to triple jump, placing third in the SEC Conference the first time she ever competed in the event. Within a year, her performance earned her a partial track scholarship.
